WE LIVE IN TIME

WE LIVE IN TIME

Directed by John Crowley

If you're like me and desperately need a break from all the horror, sequels and horror sequels dominating the local megaplexes then A24 has got you covered. WE LIVE IN TIME is a charming and achingly tender romantic drama starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh as we see their relationship over the course of a decade or so told through a nonlinear frame.

He's a cereal executive going through a divorce, she's a former figure skater turned chef. They meet they fall in love but it isn't that simple is it? The time setting changes from scene to scene occasionally causing some mild confusion but I suspect the point is to not always be sure and to live in the moment, a strong theme throughout the film.

Our two stars have undeniable chemistry and aren't afraid to be vulnerable and really show deeper personality traits that aren't always favorable but help to fully flesh out the characters. Pugh is given more emotional baggage to work with but Garfield  (who is currently on an absolutely dynamite press run just charming the pants off anyone that dare speak to him) is so sweet and romantic and possibly the heart of the movie if we're being real here.

The passionate sex scenes, UK setting (with both stars using their natural accents!) and healthy dose of humor made this a rather easy viewing. Don't get me wrong this still has strong melodrama and tear-jerker elements, you've been warned! Take a date or a couple friends and remember to fall in love.
