Directed by Lawrence Lamont
In a quite literally they don't make em like they used to anymore sense, it's a miracle we have "One of Them Days". A low/mid budget R-rated comedy starring 2 famous black woman, wide released in theaters across the country, number one movie in America, and on top of it all it's very, very funny.
OoTD stars Keke Palmer and RnB superstar SZA as best friends and roommates in a rundown LA apartment complex. Both girls have dreams and aspirations but are kind of stuck by the realities of their situation. A nasty evil landlord looms over everything, evicting people the moment rent is late. It's the first of the month, not only is rent due but Keke has a potentially life-changing job interview. Too bad SZA's extremely sexy lazy good for nothing boytoy took their money and spent it. Now the girls have until end of day to make rent and avoid eviction.
Spoiler alert! Hilarity and wacky hijinks ensue. Keke Palmer has proven herself over the years to not only have the comedy chops, but the charisma and talent to carry a picture as well. No surprise there, she deserves to be a much bigger star. What I wasn't expecting is mysterious ethereal beauty SZA to be so goshdarn wacky with comedic timing and delivery that you're either born with or not. These girls are so deliciously funny together, my theater was roaring with laughter.
It's filled with vulgarities and a bit of sex jokes but otherwise this isn't crazy raunchy either, instead finding comedy in the situations and casting comedians in little popup cameos. Praise the powers that be that saw the potential in this and gave it the big splashy THEATRICAL release it deserves and not dumped in the black hole ether of streamers. The spiritual successor to the FRIDAY movie series we never knew we needed, give us a sequel! Or cast our 2 girls in another wacky feature. The public demands it.
