A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE

TUESDAY

Written and directed by Daina O. Pusić

We have seen Death personified on screen many times over the years. Sometimes it's a pretty straight forward visual but other times it can be quite abstract. In TUESDAY, the new magical drama from A24, Death arrives in the form of a size-changing macaw.

The less you know about this one the better, but basic premise is the macaw visits Julia Louis-Dreyfus and her daughter and teaches them about life and death. The film is not weepy though, instead going for a more profound existential melancholy kind of vibe and yes when you cast JLD there are going to be many laughs as well.

I have never seen anything quite like this film. Visually stunning with an emphasis on provocative sound design, I can almost guarantee you won't see the twists and turns the script takes. It's an incredibly beautiful movie with exceptional work from JLD, proving yet again that the "Seinfeld Curse" applies only to her former male co-stars (POPTART movie, anyone?). Writer/Director Daina O. Pusić shows much confidence and skill in her debut film and I look forward to see what else she has up her sleeve. Go into this one as blind as you can! One of the best pictures of the year. ⭐⭐⭐⭐/4
