DROP

Directed by Christopher Landon

First dates can be killer. Especially when there’s an unknown figure somewhere in the restaurant airdropping you increasingly threatening messages.

Violet (Meghann Fahy) is on her first date in a very long time. A single mother taking care of her only son and working through past trauma. Nevertheless she persists and finally meets Henry (the absolutely gorgeous/stunning/smoldering Brandon Sklenar) at a beautiful skyhigh Chicago restaurant. Then come the messages...What does this person want?

They want Violet to kill Henry! If she doesn't comply there's a masked man at home taking her son and babysitter hostage. Dilemma! To give any more details would spoil the fun as this is a TIGHT 90 minute thriller where I had no idea what was going to happen next.

Director Christopher Landon has already proven that he has the sauce with such fun horror flicks like the HAPPY DEATH DAY series. He's truly outdone himself with this one though. The way tech is used in the movie is fun and it's surprisingly more highly stylized than the trailers show. A completely preposterous premise like this needs to be grounded in emotions, something our 2 leads absolutely crush. I have never seen either actor before but I'm a fan now, especially Brandon Sklenar who is the most handsome man to have ever graced my eyes.

The who/what/why reveal is an absolute blast with a climax that had me flying out of my seat many times. This reminded me of newer M. Night Shyamalan, silly but serious, fun and thrilling with Hitchcock influences worn on the sleeve. My audience applauded at the end, this was a good time at the movies.
